Kidnapping Attempt and Slingshot Hero
According to a news release by the Michigan State Police, the suspect appeared from the woods and grabbed the girl, covering her mouth. Fortunately, the victim was able to break away from the suspect’s grasp. Her 13-year-old brother witnessed the attempted abduction and shot the suspect in the head and chest with a slingshot before the suspect fled the scene.

Arrest and Confession
Another family member saw the suspect fleeing and provided a description to the police. Officers eventually found the suspect hiding at a nearby gas station. The suspect had visible wounds from the slingshot and was taken into custody. During an interview with detectives, the suspect reportedly admitted that he planned to severely beat the child.
Charges and Court Appearance
On Thursday, the authorities arraigned the suspect on several charges, which include attempted kidnapping/child enticement, attempted assault to do great bodily harm less than murder, and assault and battery. Despite being a juvenile, the suspect is facing charges as an adult. His identity has not been released publicly, and the court has set a bond of $150,000 cash surety.
He is due back in court on May 17 for a probable cause conference.
Other Michigan Crimes
This incident adds to a growing list of disturbing crimes in Michigan involving minors, including the recent arrest of a middle school coach who allegedly filmed himself having sex with a 12-year-old girl. Another news report stated that authorities have convicted an ex-Michigan State Police “Civilian of the Year” of criminal sexual conduct involving a minor.
