Listen to this article Realistic Mars Simulations Contribute To Uncovering Dinosaurs In The Real World
Introduction
A simulated Mars mission in Utah resulted in a unique discovery of dinosaur fossils from the Jurassic Period, dating back approximately 148 million years ago. The Mars Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting space exploration, stumbled upon the first fossil while conducting the simulation.

Discovery of Dinosaur Fossils
Since the initial discovery, the Burpee Museum of Natural History has excavated around 40 dinosaur bones each summer. The project, led by paleontologist Scott Williams, has uncovered a significant amount of fossils from the region. Williams believes that the site is one of the best in the United States for Jurassic fossils.
Value of the Site
Apart from being a significant paleontological site, the Mars-like appearance of the region also makes it an excellent site for studying extraterrestrial exploration. Williams and his team, in collaboration with the Mars Society, are working to develop a system to record GPS coordinates and take photographs of any fossils discovered by the volunteers.
