Ukraine’s Capital Defends Against Russian Attack
On May 9th, Russia launched its fifth attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, firing approximately 15 cruise missiles in the second attack in as many days.Furthermore this attack came ten days after the Russian military unleashed its biggest drone swarm yet, ending a lull that began in early March. Kyiv’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and shot down all missiles launched at the city, and there have been no reports of casualties, according to officials.

Aggressor’s Plans Foile
Also In the aftermath of the attack, Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s city military administration, said that “as at the front, the plans of the aggressor failed,” in comments he posted on the Telegram messaging app.
Victory Day Attack
The May 9th attack, which targeted Kyiv on Russia’s Victory Day, marked one of Russia’s most commemorated public holidays, honouring the anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. Popko stated, “(They) try to kill as many civilians as possible – on this day.”
Damage and Debris
While the attack did not result in any casualties, debris from the falling missiles hit a house in the Holosiivskyi district of southwest Kyiv.Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitalii Klitschko, reported on his Telegram channel that there was no significant damage or casualties. In the central Shevchenkivskyi district, debris was found on a road.
Kyiv’s Resilience
Despite the recent attacks, Popko declared that “Kyiv stood up again and will stand up in the future!” The city remains on alert, with air raid alerts blaring over most of the country, as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues.
