Listen to this article Airbnb Introduces Pre-Booking Notification for Host Checkout Requirements and Removes Listings with Poor Chore Reviews
Introduction
Airbnb guests have long faced the challenge of dealing with unexpected and excessive checkout chores requested by hosts, such as laundry and lawn care. Also this has been a point of contention among users, with some venting their frustration on social media.

New Policy
Moreover to address this issue, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky announced on Twitter that guests will now have access to checkout instructions and be able to rate the tasks required ahead of booking. The new policy aims to improve the user experience by providing transparency and allowing users to make informed decisions about the properties they book.
The removal of listings with enough negative feedback will incentivize hosts to be more considerate about the tasks they require.
Other New Features
The checkout policy is one of 53 new features and upgrades announced by Chesky. These include:
- “Airbnb Rooms,” which allows guests to stay with locals in spare rooms, creating a more immersive and authentic travel experience.
- An interface for booking longer stays with reduced fees, making Airbnb a more appealing option for those seeking extended accommodations.
- The option to pay for rooms with bank accounts to avoid credit-card fees, providing users with a more flexible payment option.
Host Approaches
While some hosts have eliminated the requirement for post-stay tasks and instead imposed extra cleaning fees, others still request a few specific chores such as taking out the trash and placing used linens on the bathroom floor. Also one host running a 4,000-square-foot property in Oregon couples cleaning fees with two specific tasks for guests: taking out the trash and placing used linens on the bathroom floor.
Instead of requesting tasks from guests upon checkout, another host has opted to charge an additional cleaning fee if the rental is left in a condition that requires extra work from cleaners.
