FBI Director Warns of Chinese Hacker Dominance in Cyber Warfare
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray made a plea for more funding for the agency during a budget hearing before a House Appropriations subcommittee on Thursday. He revealed that the U.S. is facing a significant cybersecurity threat from China, whose hackers outnumber FBI cyber personnel by at least 50 to 1.

The Scale of the Cyber Threats
In prepared remarks, Wray disclosed that China has “a bigger hacking program than every other major nation combined” and has stolen more personal and corporate data from the U.S. than all other nations, combined. However, he also emphasized that countries like Russia, Iran, and North Korea pose significant cybersecurity concerns, as do non-state criminal actors. Currently, the FBI is investigating over 100 “ransomware variants” with “scores of victims” for each.
The Need for Additional Funding
Wray is requesting around $63 million to increase the FBI’s cyber staff by hiring 192 new positions. He believes this will enable the agency to put more cyber staff in field offices and to be closer to where victims of cybercrimes are located.
Cyber Threats from China
Wray emphasized that the FBI faces a considerable challenge due to the vast scale of Chinese hackers. Even if the FBI’s cyber agents and intelligence analysts concentrate only on China, they still face being outnumbered by Chinese hackers at a ratio of 50 to 1. According to the FBI Director, the primary objective of China’s hackers is to pilfer intellectual property. He added that Chinese hackers use several methods to target US companies, including front companies and Chinese students studying in US universities.
Charging Methods for E20
The E20, which links logistic hubs between Hallsberg and Örebro, will undergo electrification. Although the charging method for E20 remains undecided, three types of charging exist, namely the catenary system, inductive system, and conductive system.
