The Shooting Incident

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Martys’ 79-year-old neighbor, Ettore Lacchei, approached him while he was using his leaf blower and began arguing with him. During the dispute, Lacchei allegedly shot and killed Martys. Authorities arrested Lacchei after a thorough investigation and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder. The sheriff’s department stated that Lacchei had “various perceived grievances” with Martys.

The Investigation and Arrest

Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg expressed condolences to Martys’ family and friends and stated that the members of the sheriff’s office are relentless when it comes to seeking justice for victims. the members of the Criminal Investigations Division worked tirelessly to bring Martys’ killer to justice, and authorities are currently holding Lacchei without bond in the county jail.

The Alleged Prior Incident

A neighbor of both men confirmed that Lacchei had pulled a gun on Martys at least once before.

JR McCarty, a neighbor of William Martys and Ettore Lacchei, stated, “It’s just kind of crazy to think that someone can break like that over just a simple argument that can be fixed just talking. No one deserves anything like that.”

The Family’s Response

Martys’ daughter, Jacquelyn Martys, declined to comment on her father’s death, stating that the family is trying to deal with the tremendous loss.

Possible Motive

The sheriff’s office stated that Lacchei had “various perceived grievances” with Martys, leading to speculations that the shooting may have been a result of a long-standing dispute between the two neighbors. Investigators found what they believe could be a murder weapon near Lacchei’s property line.
