Officials have arrested Dr. Yue Yu, a respected dermatologist who is affiliated with Providence Mission Hospital, on accusations of poisoning her husband with Drano. This information comes from both officials and a restraining order filing.Her husband, Dr. Jack Chen, had placed cameras in their home and gathered video evidence, which he shared with the Irvine Police Department.
Details of the Incident
On Thursday, Dr. Chen contacted Irvine authorities, suspecting that his wife was poisoning him. He alleged that she had poisoned him on three occasions, on July 11, 18, and 25, by pouring Drano into his hot lemonade drink.Moreover he had begun to notice a “chemical taste” in his drink in March and April and had gone to the doctor, who diagnosed him with stomach ulcers, gastritis, and inflammation of the esophagus. In a bid to catch her in the act, Dr. Chen placed cameras in the home that surreptitiously recorded evidence of Dr. Yu pouring Drano into his drink.

Arrest and Charges
The Irvine Police Department arrived at the couple’s home on the same day with a search warrant, interviewed Dr. Yu, and subsequently arrested her. The police released her the following day after she posted a $30,000 bond. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the evidence, and they have not yet filed charges against Dr. Yu.
Legal Action by the Husband
Dr. Chen has filed for a restraining order against Dr. Yu, alleging that she abused him and their children emotionally and physically. He has also filed for divorce on the same day as the restraining order. The couple has two children aged 7 and 8.
Response from Dr. Yu’s Attorney
Dr. Yu’s attorney, David E. Wohl, has denied the allegations against his client, stating that she “vehemently and unequivocally denies ever attempting to poison her husband or anyone else.” He has also declared that Dr. Yu’s husband has made false allegations against her to gain an advantage in their divorce and custody case.
Response from the Hospital
A spokesperson for Providence Mission Hospital, where Dr. Yu is affiliated, has stated that the incident is a domestic matter that occurred in Irvine and that it has no impact on their patients.Also the hospital is cooperating fully with the Irvine Police Department’s investigation.
