Sexual Exploitation of Female Combat Medics

Radio Free Europe reported that other Russian soldiers are exploiting female combat medics in the Russian army as “field wives,” a term used to refer to women who are used as sex slaves. These soldiers force these women to perform sexual acts with Russian officers and repeatedly rape them, which is a shocking and appalling reality.

Those who refuse to comply face abuse and punishment. This behavior is completely unacceptable and violates basic human rights.

Margarita’s Story

One former field medic, Margarita, bravely spoke out about her experiences in an interview with Radio Free Europe. She shared how as soon as she arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a colonel noticed her in formation and ordered that she report to work in his headquarters. This colonel had his eyes set on Margarita and wanted her to be his “field wife.” Despite refusing his advances, the colonel made Margarita’s life a living hell. She was punished and eventually transferred to an artillery unit close to the front.

Joe Biden’s Accusations

US President Joe Biden has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of committing war crimes. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin, justifying the definition of “crimes against humanity.” Such crimes include the continuous, widespread and systematic use of murder, rape, torture and threats of deportation by Russia against the people of Ukraine.
