Saudi Arabia Unveils Plans for The Mukaab, a Futuristic Cube City in Riyadh
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has announced the latest mega-project to boost the country’s economy and diversify its revenue streams. The futuristic urban development, called The Mukaab, will be a towering 400-meter-high cube city located in the heart of Riyadh. The PIF claims that the structure will be large enough to hold 20 Empire State Buildings.
The Mukaab: A Futuristic Cube City
The Mukaab is the centerpiece of the wider New Murabba project, an ambitious urban development project that aims to transform Riyadh into a thriving modern city. The New Murabba Development Company will oversee the project.

Inspired by the modern Nadji architectural style, the cube city will offer “ever-changing environments” using digital and virtual technologies to create holographic displays. It will feature a tower on top of a spiral base, and a massive structure with 2 million square meters of floor space that will house a variety of hospitality, retail, cultural, and tourist attractions.
A Versatile Urban Space
The Mukaab is designed to be one of the largest built structures in the world. It will also offer a wide range of amenities, including residential and hotel units, commercial spaces, and recreational facilities. The goal is to create a versatile urban space that caters to the needs of modern lifestyles.
The development will feature green areas, walking and cycle paths, and over 80 entertainment and cultural venues. These will include a museum, technology and design museum, and a theater. The aim is to provide a vibrant community with plenty of spaces to work, play, and relax.
A Sustainable and Healthy Environment
New Murabba aims to be a sustainable and healthy community, with ample green spaces and walking areas to promote healthy lifestyles. The development will provide living, working, and entertainment spaces within a 15-minute walking radius, with a 20-minute drive to the airport.
The project will cover an area of 19 square kilometers at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the northwest of Riyadh. It will encompass 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, 980,000 square meters of retail space, and 1.4 million square meters of office space. There will also be 1.8 million square meters of community facilities.
Completion and Economic Impact
The New Murabba project is set to be completed by 2030, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the Saudi Arabian economy. The project is expected to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and attract foreign investors to the country.
In conclusion, The Mukaab and the New Murabba project represent a significant investment in the future of Saudi Arabia’s urban landscape. With its futuristic design, versatile amenities, and sustainable approach, the project promises to become a thriving hub for residents, tourists, and investors alike.
