“The Future of Work: Artificial Intelligence Replaces Interns at Codeword Agency
As technology continues to rapidly advance, the future of work lies in the hands of AI. In a recent development, tech-marketing agency Codeword has announced that its latest interns aren’t actual humans but fully operate on computer-generated software. This bold move is part of the agency’s plan to explore human-AI collaborations and learn from the experiment.
Meet The Interns
Aiden and Aiko, the AI-generated interns, have been given the ability to create their own visual projects, work alongside teams at Codeword, and even name themselves. In a press statement, Aiden stated, “I am designed to be helpful and efficient. I believe that I could be a valuable resource as an ‘intern,’ although my abilities would be somewhat different from those of a human intern.”
Artificial Intelligence Takeover
The replacement of interns with AI is not an isolated incident. The world’s first robot lawyer was set to take on an official court case, aimed at eliminating the extensive fees associated with both hiring a lawyer and racking up parking tickets. These developments show that AI is not only replacing traditional intern positions but also taking on tasks previously performed by humans.
What Does This Mean For Human Workers?
The World Economic Forum predicts that AI will replace 85 million jobs worldwide by 2025. However, the organization’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2020” also suggests that the technology will create 97 million new jobs within the next few years.
Codeword’s Senior Editor, Terrence Doyle, sees the potential in AI to produce great work faster and streamline internal processes. He states, “It’s an opportunity to move some of the more banal tasks off human plates so our people can better focus on actual high-value work for our clients…If we can make that work, it’ll be a win for our team and for our clients.” However, he also acknowledges his own fear of the creative capacity of AI, stating “I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t sort of terrified by the creative…capacity of AI.”
As AI continues to integrate with the workplace, it raises questions about the future of work and the role of human workers. While the replacement of interns with AI may seem like a small step, it is a significant development in the continued evolution of AI and its impact on the job market.”
