On Saturday afternoon, São José dos Campos experienced a severe storm that caused damage to several regions of the city. The heavy rain, wind and lightning caused trees to fall, flooding in some areas, and even the partial collapse of the roof at a Havan store located in the Vila Industrial neighborhood. The store was closed immediately after the incident and no injuries were reported. However, it is not yet known when the store will be able to reopen for customers.
According to initial reports, part of the roof collapsed on the cashiers and also on the food section of the store. The OVALE report was unable to contact Havan’s press office for further comment on the matter. The incident at Havan was not the only damage caused by the storm, an electricity pole also fell and broke in half in the central region of São José, near Banhado. In total, at least 26 trees have fallen across the city due to the storm.
The residential condominium Jardim Morumbi, located in the south of the city, also faced problems with flooding. This is not the first time this condominium has been affected by heavy rain, in September of this year the same condominium had been partially flooded.
The storm also caused widespread power outages in the city, many houses and streets were left without electricity. The city’s energy concessionaire, EDP, reported a significant increase in demand for assistance. In response, the company immediately reinforced its service and deployed technical teams to repair the damage and restore power. The company stated that the storm caused damage to the overhead power grid, including external factors such as fallen trees and poles on the wiring. The time for normalization of operations varies depending on the extent of the damage caused and some occurrences are automatically normalized through the electrical network automation system.
Overall, the storm caused significant damage to the city and disrupted the lives of many residents. Emergency services have been working tirelessly to respond to the damage and keep the community safe. It is important to remember that severe weather can strike without warning and it is important to always be prepared and stay informed.
