The truth about UFOs has been a topic of much debate and speculation for many years, but now, with the government starting to acknowledge their existence, there can be no denying that UFOs are real. While it’s still uncertain whether they are being operated by extraterrestrial beings, there is irrefutable evidence that unidentified flying objects of some kind have been documented and authenticated by the highest authorities.
However, in two coastal cities in Mexico, the belief in otherworldly beings takes on a different form. Here, the rumor persists that underwater inhabitants have been actively protecting the area for the past fifty years by rerouting tropical storms away from the cities. The recent diversion of Tropical Storm Karl, which quickly changed course towards the Gulf of Mexico as it approached the two cities, has served as a catalyst for renewed interest in this urban legend.
The idea of underwater alien protection may seem far-fetched to some, but for the residents of these two Mexican cities, it’s a belief that they hold dear. In fact, thousands have pledged their allegiance to these supposed underwater weather controllers, and the legend continues to inspire curiosity and awe among both locals and outsiders alike.
It’s clear that the truth about UFOs and otherworldly beings is still shrouded in mystery, but one thing is certain – the world is a strange and fascinating place, full of surprises and possibilities that we can only begin to imagine.
A bright saucer-shaped unidentified flying object (UFO) was captured in a photograph over the Francisco I Madero Refinery in Tamps, Mexico in June 2021. The photograph has been determined to be authentic and not manipulated through multiple studies.

When a storm was approaching the cities of Madero and Tampico, many local residents were not at all bothered by it. In fact, they believed that they were being protected by a higher force. One of them, 71-year-old Beatriz Garcia, said in an interview, “I immediately said, ‘they are going to protect us.’ And this is what I believe and trust: that they exist, that there is a base.” This base, according to Garcia and many other locals, is located a few miles off the coast of Miramar Beach in an area known as Amupac.
The belief in the existence of this base can be traced back to an event that occurred in 1967, when thousands of locals witnessed nine UFOs in the sky descending to the area off the coast of Miramar Beach. The sightings were even confirmed by the local Tampico airport air traffic control tower, according to a report from El Sol de Tampico, which covered the event the day after it happened.
Because so many people saw the UFOs at the same time, news of the event quickly spread and was widely accepted as true. This belief was further solidified when the cities of Madero and Tampico suddenly stopped experiencing extreme weather events following two massive hurricanes in 1955 and 1966. In the fifty-five years since the aliens first landed on that fateful August night, the area has been free of any destruction at the hands of Mother Nature.
Today, the area is home to a UFO festival called El Día OVNI (Objeto Volador No Identificado) Tamaulipas, which is organized by the OVNI Scientific Investigations Association of Tamaulipas (AICOT), an activist group dedicated to researching UFOs. The festival itself was started as a joke in October 2013 by a notable figure from nearby Nuevo Leon, who called it El Día del Marciano, or The Day of the Martian. However, people like AICOT founder Juan Carlos Ramón López have worked to turn it into an officially recognized holiday by doing away with the Martian terminology and refocusing on OVNIs and the various run-ins people have supposedly had with these extraterrestrial beings.
For many local residents, the belief in the existence of this base and the protection it provides is a source of comfort and reassurance, especially during times of potential danger from natural disasters. And for the organizers of the festival, it’s an opportunity to bring people together to celebrate and learn more about UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
