At the back end of 2020, a technology company showed off a concept device it promised would be coming to homes at some point in the future. The Always Home Cam is a mini drone, designed to zoom around your home, patrolling for intruders when you weren’t in. Now, at CES 2023, the company offered us a first real-world look at the hardware in flight, although it’s still reluctant to commit to a release date, or a price.
The device has a sleek and compact design that resembles a kitchen appliance, such as a smart bread bin. It’s a little larger than it looks in the initial demo videos, but still small enough to not take up too much space. Unlike other drones on the market, this device does not have a traditional drone appearance, but still emits the familiar sound that mini drones make.
According to the company, the device is intended to cover one floor of a home, ideally the ground floor, where most of the activities happen. The device can be trained to fly around your home on preset routes to detect any potential intruders. Users can set multiple paths and specific waypoints for the drone to follow, such as checking the back door or the stove, so you can keep an eye on things without having to wait too long.
Additionally, the device can also be set to pause in mid-flight and rotate around to surveil a particular area, in case you spot something amiss. The device will be integrated with the company’s existing app, so there won’t be a need for a separate app to control the drone. However, a release date has not been announced yet. But the fact that the company has prototypes ready to show off means it must be close to being available for purchase.
Overall, the Always Home Cam is a unique and innovative device that combines the convenience of a smart home appliance with the security of a surveillance drone. It offers a new level of protection and peace of mind for homeowners.
